Hiya! And welcome to our new space, this is where we get to hang out from now on! Isn’t it cozy and fantastic? Plus it’s aqua, which is my favorite color in the world, the color of our wedding, our dishes, our bedspread… you get the idea.
Would you mind at all if I gave you a little tour? Then I want to give you a present, is that alright?
See the top navigation bar? ^ Nearly all the words in there are brand new, I’ve spent time weaving them so intentionally.
There are even some new features there, especially the “my people” link, where you can get to know some of my sweetest friends. I’ll be adding to this list as we go.
One of the most functional changes is the new Disqus commenting system. If you haven’t used it before you will need to create a user name, but after that it will be ever so much easier and will free up the dialogue here. Trust me, I’ve put some thought into this.
Over to your right you’ll notice those lovely aqua (squeeee!) buttons underneath my picture (which I realize needs changing) You can use those buttons to connect with me in all sorts of ways, now including Pinterest and Instagram!
Oh and that signature down there? It’s my real handwriting. And that flower? That’s my doodle, I put it on oh… everything from sermon notes to handwritten cards.
Sorry about all the ! I’m excited, and in fact I’m not sorry, this redesign has been in the works since September.
Speaking of design, I’d like to introduce the mastermind behind the beauty that surrounds us, Hannah Rose Beasley.
Working with Hannah is like therapy, she actually takes time to get to know you from the inside out and then designs a blog space to match your heart space. Seriously you guys, how awesome is that?
She came up with this design concept by asking me questions like:
Who are you stripped of profession, roles, geography, and association?
What about you doesn’t change when things around you change?
What are you constantly drawn to?
Those are soul-searching type questions, it was no quick survey I assure you.
After digging for those answers, I pinned a ton of my favorite things for her and she came up with this mood board that would be the inspiration for the design.
Things like tufted ottomans, Lake Michigan, Antique keys and books made the mood board… mostly aqua of course. (And yes, Hayley Morgan’s header was an inspiration as well… the gorgeous watercolor look of it)
We started with a candle up top, but the more I thought of it, the more I felt that a lantern was a better fit for my writing, a bit more about that here.
This came to me one night while I was staring at the antique lantern that graces the top of our mantle-case (a hybrid of bookshelf and mantle that Kel created for me)
I love the soft, steady light of a lantern, it speaks of God’s love to me.
Well I think that’s about it for the new-ness, Oh except the presents I promised.
I’m making you a scarf, two in fact, one aqua and one yellow in honor of this new space. All you have to do to win is de-lurk and say hi and you could win one of these two hand-made infinity scarves. A nod to one of my 2013 goals.
So just say hi, you gave my the honor of coming to this blog-warming so tell me who you are, where you’re from?
Or you can say anything you like: what’s your favorite color? What one object speaks of God’s love to you? What are you wearing? (no.. that one’s probably creepy)
We’ll keep this contest going for the weekend, it will close at midnight CST Sunday, Feb 10. I’ll announce the winners Monday morning, only one entry per person please.
Okay so that’s that. Welcome! Grab a glass of champagne and a bacon wrapped date and enjoy! I’m so excited you came, did I say that already? I don’t even care, hi, I love you. The end.
