New Blogwarming Party, Welcome!

Hiya!  And welcome to our new space, this is where we get to hang out from now on! Isn’t it cozy and fantastic?  Plus it’s aqua, which is my favorite color in the world, the color of our wedding, our dishes, our bedspread… you get the idea.

Would you mind at all if I gave you a little tour?  Then I want to give you a present, is that alright?

See the top navigation bar?  ^ Nearly all the words in there are brand new, I’ve spent time weaving them so intentionally.

There are even some new features there, especially the “my people” link, where you can get to know some of my sweetest friends.  I’ll be adding to this list as we go.

One of the most functional changes is the new Disqus commenting system.  If you haven’t used it before you will need to create a user name, but after that it will be ever so much easier and will free up the dialogue here.  Trust me, I’ve put some thought into this.

Over to your right you’ll notice those lovely aqua (squeeee!) buttons underneath my picture (which I realize needs changing)  You can use those buttons to connect with me in all sorts of ways, now including Pinterest and Instagram!

Oh and that signature down there?  It’s my real handwriting.  And that flower?  That’s my doodle, I put it on oh… everything from sermon notes to handwritten cards.

Sorry about all the ! I’m excited, and in fact I’m not sorry, this redesign has been in the works since September.

Speaking of design, I’d like to introduce the mastermind behind the beauty that surrounds us, Hannah Rose Beasley.

Working with Hannah is like therapy, she actually takes time to get to know you from the inside out and then designs a blog space to match your heart space.  Seriously you guys, how awesome is that?

She came up with this design concept by asking me questions like:

Who are you stripped of profession, roles, geography, and association?
What about you doesn’t change when things around you change?
What are you constantly drawn to?

Those are soul-searching type questions, it was no quick survey I assure you.

After digging for those answers, I pinned a ton of my favorite things for her and she came up with this mood board that would be the inspiration for the design.

moodboardThings like tufted ottomans, Lake Michigan, Antique keys and books made the mood board… mostly aqua of course.  (And yes, Hayley Morgan’s header was an inspiration as well… the gorgeous watercolor look of it)

photo copy 5We started with a candle up top, but the more I thought of it, the more I felt that a lantern was a better fit for my writing, a bit more about that here.

This came to me one night while I was staring at the antique lantern that graces the top of our mantle-case (a hybrid of bookshelf and mantle that Kel created for me)

I love the soft, steady light of a lantern, it speaks of God’s love to me.

Well I think that’s about it for the new-ness, Oh except the presents I promised.

I’m making you a scarf, two in fact, one aqua and one yellow in honor of this new space.  All you have to do to win is de-lurk and say hi and you could win one of these two hand-made infinity scarves.  A nod to one of my 2013 goals.

scarves, I promise I haven't worn the ones I'm giving away.

Infinity Scarves!! I promise I haven’t worn the ones I’m giving away… except to size them

So just say hi, you gave my the honor of coming to this blog-warming so tell me who you are, where you’re from?

Or you can say anything you like: what’s your favorite color?  What one object speaks of God’s love to you?  What are you wearing?  (no.. that one’s probably creepy)

We’ll keep this contest going for the weekend, it will close at midnight CST Sunday, Feb 10.  I’ll announce the winners Monday morning, only one entry per person please.

Okay so that’s that. Welcome!  Grab a glass of champagne and a bacon wrapped date and enjoy!  I’m so excited you came, did I say that already?  I don’t even care, hi, I love you.  The end.

  • BrennaDA

Congrats! A beautiful blog for a beautiful writer!

    • Leanne Penny

Oh Breanna, thank you, catching up on all your recent words is on my weekend to-do BTW.

  • Caris Adel

This is gorgeous! I don’t know why I thought the other day that that was the new design, lol. But…….”Over to your right you’ll notice those lovely aqua (squeeee!) buttons underneath my picture(which I realize needs changing) You can use those buttons to connect with me in all sorts of ways, now including Pinterest and Instagram!” For me, I don’t see any of those.

I’m thinking about redoing my design later this summer. I’ll have to check her out. I like her approach.

    • Leanne Penny

I know! Right now they’re only visible on the homepage, if you click the header you’ll see the full site as it’s supposed to be, I am emailing hannah about that now, I sort of just realized that myself seconds before I saw your comment. You’re a sharp one 😉

And yes! Hannah is lovely, you’d enjoy working with her.

      • Caris Adel

oh it looks so nice!! Your signature is a really cool touch too.

  • Jennifer Lundberg

Love the look. The colors are soothing on the screen. Especially enjoyed reading how the process involved in bringing this together.

    • Leanne Penny

I’m glad you enjoyed that part, I wasn’t sure if it would be fun and interesting or boring TMI.

  • Stacey Lozano

Love it so much. It really is lovely and peaceful here. :)

    • Leanne Penny

I’m so truly glad that you feel the peaceful vibes…

  • Sarah

    How you, Leanne!

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks Sarah! I love that you see it since you’ve known me from way back in the college days.

  • Heather Tiger

Absolutely love it sweet friend! What an amazing job and big milestone! Super excited for you. Looking forward to exploring more. (Never made it out of those pj’s today, btw! One of those days. Ya know!)

    • Leanne Penny

Thank you! Eh, some days the PJs are the right choice 😉

  • HopefulLeigh

I love the new look! It’s fabulous. Love all the little extras, like using your handwriting. So fun!

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks Leigh! I am ridiculously giddy to have a space that finally feels like me and not something WP stock.

  • Adele Chapman

Hi Leanne. You don’t have to send me a scarf, since I’m from Western Australia! Just wanted to say hi and say I love the new blog look. :)
PS I’m wearing pajamas, but in my defence it’s only 8 am on Saturday morning here!

    • Leanne Penny

PJs at 8AM is MORE than appropriate. And hey if you win the scarf I’ll send it along… we’ll I’ll see about what the Post Office says? Or is it too hot for scarves there?

      • Adele Chapman

Right now even thinking about scarves makes me hot. For example, today’s forecast is 42 degrees C (that’s nearly 108 F). :/ But in about four months there should be a three week window in which I could wear your scarf with pride!
Seriously though, I’m sure most of your readers are in much greater need. xo

  • Jamie Kocur

It’s purdy. Thanks for the tour. :)

I’m from Florida, my favorite color is (forest) green, and I’ll have to think on the object that speaks to me of God’s love. What a good question!

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks! Yeah that Question took me a while too, and of course I don’t think something as big as God’s love can be defined by just one thing. Is’t always different in different seasons.

  • Mark Allman

Looks Great Leanne. The signature and flower are awesome.

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks! Seriously that doodle is on everything I take a pen to. And everyone is allowed to love the signature, but no forgery please 😉

  • Anne Bogel

LOVE. IT. And thanks for sharing your inspiration board. I love the behind-the-scenes peeks at stuff like that :)

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks! I’m so glad, when I saw the mood board for the first time I was in the middle of the Story conference (yes in Sept) and I Gasped and did a silly dance in the middle of half strangers. Well they may as well get to know the real me from the get go…

  • Joy Milano

    Hey Leanne,
Still enjoying reading you; just wanted you to know. :)

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks Joy… although in my head I still call you Professor Milano 😉

  • Laurie Wilks

Hi, Leanne! I really like the new space.

    • Leanne Penny

Thank you so much, me too, I grin just thinking about it… still.

  • JudyvWerf

Hi Leanne – LOVE your blog!! :)

    • Leanne Penny

Thanks Judy, I love that you visit me here.

  • Amanda Prihoda

Oh, it’s beautiful!! I tried to comment yesterday but Twitter was down, and then I gave up. Anyway, I love the new look – so peaceful and personal. As for your questions — I also love aqua, coffee shows me God’s love, and I’m wearing a fuzzy sweatshirt and slippers. And pants. 😉

    • Leanne Penny

Aqua Lovers Unite! And Yay Pants! Although the beauty of the internet is that technically pants ARE optional 😉

  • annette skarin

I commented on My People. Anyway, just turn a few pages > I’m over there.

    • Leanne Penny

Got it! No worries, you’re so entered.

  • Michelle Woodman

Leanne, your new blog layout looks *fantastic*!!

And to answer your questions (minus the creepy one — LOL):
    1. I’m Michelle.
    2. I live in Alberta, Canada. (I’m a foreigner. Pretty exotic locale, eh?)
    3. My favourite colour is orange.

    4. An object that speaks to me of God’s love . . . you know, I really don’t know as I’ve never been asked that before. Off the top of my head, I will say an anchor. They’re pretty immovable and a steadying force. If that makes any sense. 😛

    • Leanne Penny

Aw c’mon the creepy one was the best one! Totally with you on the anchor, in fact I thought of this comments as it came up in our worship lyrics at church today. God help me I can’t remember what song now…

  • Stephanie Butenhof

Aww, Leanne, it’s gorgeous! (The blog, the colors, the pictures, the scarves!) I love it – you definitely should be proud! :)

    • Leanne Penny

Thank you! Me too, I’m pretty proud… although I did not do the Lion’s share of the work.. I mostly did the worrying that something would go wrong in the transfer.

  • Stephanie B.

Love the new design! The colors are beautiful and there’s nothing like a good lantern. :) I’m hailing from Grand Rapids, my favorite color is green? gray? black? yellow?. And sunrises speak God’s love. Thanks for letting us share a piece of your space!

    • Leanne Penny

Helloooo Grand Rapids! I miss it so much, go to Marie Catribs for me and have the Esepranza Omelette stat… corn tortillas with a Mug of cinnamon hazelnut coffee….

and now I’ve gone and drooled on my keyboard.

  • Melissa

The new design is beautiful! I’m from Holland, MI and discovered your blog on New Year’s Day – the way you share your heart through your writing has been such a blessing!

    • Leanne Penny

Welcome! Holland is the one of the places I still dream of living someday. In a little apartment on 8th ave above one of the shops. Not too practical now with the kiddos though, either way JPs would be close so there’s that.

Thank you for joining here in 2013, I pray that you chime in often and that God blesses you.

  • Addie Zierman

    Beautiful, girl! Love it.

  • Sarah Caldwell

Hello! Love the design of the new site – so personalized and wonderful! (My favorite color is blue, but man, do I love both of the colors of your cowl – the yellow one looks like the color of a lovely skirt I just thrifted the other day :) Blessings to you friend!

    • Leanne Penny

Ooh a thrifted mustard yellow skirt? Jealous!
