What I’m Into (February 2013 Edition)

Feb Review 1

Month in [Super Brief] Review: I cannot believe February is over, I know it’s a short month but seriously?  I can hardly tell you what we did or where the month went.

I know I had a re-design on the blog, it snowed, we made snowmen, we went to Great Wolf Lodge, checked out Trader Joes and then it was supposed to snow but instead it was sunny and 54°

And now it’s almost March, dang.

Best Moments of the Month:

At Last Serenade

click for my awkward reaction to this amazing serenade

On Valentines Day, Kel had some members of the ECU cchorale come and serenade me with “At Last” by Etta James, which is the song I walked down the aisle to at our wedding.

It was amazing, I was blown away and as you can tell by the video, I had no idea what to do while these amazing singers did their thing.

Also this month, Noelle has started working out with me… and she’s amazing.  She really takes the sting off of Jillian Michaels… sort of.

And Caedmon’s nose pressed against the glass at Great Wolf Lodge?  Priceless.

Also, a new nights ago Noelle created a reading corner and I instantly felt like I was winning as a Mom.  Then Caedmon joined her and she “read” to him from her memory… and I cried a little.

Great Reads & Word Discoveries:

I have a confession to make, are you ready?  Sigh… I didn’t finish any books this month.  None.  I got close, but I was picking away at 4 and never finished.  Not great for my reading goals, yet I’m giving myself grace and pressing onward.

As far as blogs go, it was an amazing month to read blogs and I was blown away by the beauty and honesty of my friends across the country.  I spent a lot of time in awe of the power and vulnerability of women being faithful to their calls.

Here are a few posts that stuck with me, some you may have read and some you might not have.

My sweet friend Anne Bogel has Kel and I engaging in great conversations about a see- saw marriage.

My dear friend Megan finally brought her twins home, and I tear up every time I see a picture of these boys… miracles I tell you!

Amanda Williams Finding God in a Little White Pill post made me cry and feel less alone in the world… even though my pills are pink.

Brenna D’Ambrosio’s post on Why I Love Beyoncé was so refreshingly different than everything else going around the interwebs and I really enjoyed it:  “But I know what I saw. I saw a woman who is proud of herself, her talent, and her body”

Jill Burden’s lenten practice of crying out for the Russian Orphans has been blowing me away this month, and her post about “parenting in the pew” has me thinking…

On the TV Screen:

I’m Still watching the Bachelor… and wishing I wasn’t.  Kel and I are starting into Dr Who  and I’m getting into it somewhat.  But, mostly I have to tell you that I’ve been falling asleep so early lately that I’m taking in very little media at all, not too many books, movies or TV… just life and sleep.

Life has been utterly exhausting lately, I get up at 5 to tackle writing and prayer time, then take care of the kids, keep up with the house, play some more, do dinner, play, baths and fall asleep moments after the kids do.

Then it repeats again.  I don’t know what my deal is but there is so little energy left after the simple process of living life.

I hope that March brings more depth and space to breathe and be, I need to engage in life-giving things beyond my family and these walls.

 Favorite Bites:

225225_523770823047_732589480_nFebruary came with one very important realization, I love brownies.  I knew I liked brownies, but now I’m coming out of the closet.  Brownies over cupcakes, cookies and ice cream.  (Unless it’s brownies WITH ice cream and then that trumps all)

We’re Paleo in theory, but sometimes… there must be brownies.  And when we make them, we make these ones… Do try them

Also, on snowy days, nothing is better than warm muffins and banana bread… and turkey wraps with umbrellas instead of toothpicks (apparently).   But seriously, this Banana Bread hits the spot perfectly.

Soon I’m going to go public with the reasons for the GF change, and other big news… but for now, yes we’re a GF home.

Crafty-ness:  I made the homemade campfire for the kids and finished a few baby hats…

I have started getting into recycled yarn and I’m going to tackle upcycling a sweater for yarn this month, God help us, but mostly the crafts have gone the way of everything else…

I guess everything about February is short, including my creative energy.

On the Blog:

This month I unveiled a whole new look and it feels so much more like home now, I hope you agree.

I also started a new Monday series called “Mom Hacks”

This month we talked about Pedometers, Veggies and my love for my kitchen timer.  This feature has been slow to start but I’m going to keep it up for a while and see where it takes us.

Your favorite posts this month were Valentines Revolution and These are my People (and they’re tall) – The one about my amazing family and cousins.

And my favorite post?  What my Mama did, the Dancing.  You may have missed it, but my heart is there, check it out.

So now it’s your turn, what are you loving?  What are you into?

Also, always I’m linking up with Leigh Kramer’s This is What I’m into.

its good that we’ve gotten your blog the “teal look.” It was the only thing in our lives that really wasn’t teal. Thank goodness we were able to rectify THAT situation…

I have always chosen brownies over cake for my birthday. Brownies with homemade vanilla ice cream was always my request. :) And your new blog look is great.

I’ve been extra tired this month too. By 9pm, I’m totally cooked. It’s a little depressing.

Swooning over At Last! I don’t think I would’ve known what to do with all that attention either but I didn’t think you were awkward. My energy level has been lower than low this past month. I’m blaming SAD. It hits me later now that I live in TN at least. Here’s hoping spring is around the corner! I’m looking forward to all your news but I am SHOCKED you didn’t mention the cookie butter. Shocked, I tell you!

I didn’t finish any books either…..lots started. I blame February.

And my Beyonce post? Too kind lady!
